Next on stage was Stefan Kohlrausch from Spain, an IAVH examiner & teacher, talking about how the Rare and Peculiar characteristics of a patient tell us about the source of his Simillimum. Stefan reminded us about Hahnemann’s words Aude sapere and in §153, where he states that only symptoms that meet the requirements to be extraordinary, peculiar, rare or inexplainable should be used to find the best fitting remedy for every individual patient. Unfortunately, even if we have a symptom which fits these criteria, it is far from certain that there is a rubric in existence, let alone one with some remedies in it that can guide us further. But if we use our imagination and listen carefully, the source will speak to us through the words chosen by the patient or client. Stefan also showed us how we can select ‘good’ rubrics and use the repertory cleverly by grouping rubrics, making sure that the remedy covers the totality of symptoms of the patient. Stefan presented some cases to illustrate a well-conducted search for the Simillimum.
After lunch, our president, Don Hamilton took to the stage to talk about a subject which many homeopaths know about but find hard to use: the Bowel Nosodes. These remedies are not classically proven but have been used for over a century and therefore have some track record to base the prescription on. Don gave a short overview of the bowel nosodes and presented some cases in which he had used them to aid or complete cases. He also gave an introduction to the IAVH, where he presented the association with the many connections and networking all over the world.
Tim Couzens, an experienced veterinary homeopath and owner of the Holistic Veterinary Medicine Centre in Sussex south of London, then guided us through his observations in equine medicine and showed how we can get many clues just by observing the patient from afar, noting their particular body shape and colour. Tim uses many methods
