CLINICAL EXAM
– Normal temperature
Patrick : DLH, MN, 8yrs Anemia - Immune mediated
This photo does not do Patrick credit - demeaning him by showing him within a cage, but look at his eyes and you will see a little of his big character. This is the only photo I have.
OUR FIRST ENCOUNTER
I first met Patrick and his lovely human companion who ran Alley Cat Pottery when she brought him to the clinic
because he had been eating lime chips off the driveway and also craving the potting clay. This had been going on for about one year.
He was more clingy and not so chatty, looked more hunched up and sad rather than stretched and relaxed. His ears felt hotter and he seemed lethargic.
He was drinking more and spending more time outside in the evening.
Three years ago he had had a seizure but no reason was found for this.
– Heart racing but otherwise feels strong and robust.
– He sits on the bench under a shelf, withdrawn but will engage eye contact.
– Tense but cooperative.
– He is a striking cat - large longhaired and a very handsome ginger boy and has a charm about him. He doesn’t show his smoochy side at the vets.
BLOOD TESTS
–Regenerative anaemia
– FeLV and FIV negative.
– Mycoplasma haemofelis PCR negative.
– Bone marrow biopsy discussed but never pursued.
– Most likely diagnosis of Immune mediated anaemia
