practical and the philosophical and it was so good to be amongst familiar faces and feel the love and support we have for each other in our small but vitally important group of vets.
We have also had an increase of enquiries through the website from vets interested in training in homeopathy which is welcome news indeed and we have four new students starting their training next year. The committee are going to focus their efforts in the next few months on improving and expanding the veterinary content in the NCIM (National Centre for Integrative Medicine) course, so new students get the best possible training experience. If anyone is willing to have a vet ‘see practice’ with them for a day or two, please let me know. We are hoping to build up a database of trained vets who wouldn’t mind sparing a little time to help new students. Thank you to Tim Couzens who has been mentoring some of the students so far.
It is vitally important that we encourage the next generation of vets to train in homeopathy and join BAHVS. Ours is a wonderfully supportive and life enhancing group and being a member of it has made a huge difference to both my professional and personal life. As I looked around the room in Eastbourne, it really felt really special to be surrounded by so many amazing people; people that dare to think outside the box and have that rich seam of empathy and humanity running through them. All we need to do now is spread the word and let more vets experience it too!

Trying to avoid antibiotics
By Henry Stevenson, Australia
Most of my working day is spent trying to help treat cancer cases or chronic disease cases. At our practice when we first begin working on cases, we obtain a full history so that we can track what the vital force is trying to do and why it is doing that. As expected, these cases have had endless rounds of suppressive drug treatments given often over many years before they come to our doorstep after a cure. If you consciously read through enough histories, you can easily see the pattern emerge- ear discharge antibiotic/steroid, skin disease steroid or Cytopoint, lameness anti-inflammatory, then vaccine etc etc. What is the vital force to do with its disease products? I have had a deep grief, or my owner is stressed, -I deal with the emotional issues sometimes by getting gut upsets or skin itch. This avenue of healing is blocked by the steroid, antidepressants, and metronidazole etc. It is like us going out drinking beer all day then when we get a headache taking paracetamol to stop the poison reaction. I call it training for the CANCER OLYMPICS.
I have heard homeopaths say, “If they have had to be suppressed, then that is ok, you just have an opportunity to heal them from a deeper level.”
It is true that if we are trying to heal a very simple clearance itch on the feet, and that gets suppressed with a steroid, then that superficial disease may move to a deeper layer because there are many deeper layers available to the vital force. However, many of my patients are already operating from the basement and if they are suppressed, then their cancer will merely grow faster or begin elsewhere. I find even a simple antibiotic will powerfully upset my cases.
This situation frequently happens if I am treating a cancer patient and they begin to make a discharge from their skin or ear when there was no discharge previously. This discharge may even cause a fever and inflammation in the area-a perfect thing for a vet to treat with an antibiotic- “Ahh! I cannot treat the cancer but this I successfully treat every day with this antibiotic. Look! ”
Now that discharge was difficult to move out in a cancer being! The vital force was very, very busy trying to keep control of a cancer growth and now it has changed jobs to moving exudate outwards. Why would it do that? Basically, because some of that controlling energy has been freed up. It is a healing response. Antibiotic is given and some germs are killed- the discharge stops but what has happened? Has that being come out stronger or weaker? At the very least, the vital force has had to supply energy to metabolise the antibiotic and so it may also now have less control of the cancer as well.
Scientists have been experimenting with giving various bacteria or infections to cancer patients for many years. They see that when they cause a different infection it makes a fever and inflammation, and the cancer sometimes disappears. The principle has some merit and to my thinking, it has some similarity to homeopathic treatment. What I notice is the opposite end of this experiment-if my cancer patient gets an infection, and it is allowed to run, then they often get wonderful cures.
When the body is under great pressure, we can sometimes treat that acute symptom (like an acute infection) with a
