Rio came to see us with an acute oedematous swelling around the left elbow and shoulder. There was a high fever of 40 degrees and quite a lot of pain on touch in this area. He may have been playing with a snake a few days before but was not showing any other symptoms. He had a WBC of 14 and a neutrophil count of 12.6. A fine needle aspirate gave only blood. We gave Lachesis 200c in one dose and sent him home for the night on Pyrogen 200c to take each 2 hours.
The next day things were only marginally better with all the oedematous skin looking like it may become necrotic as it was congested and swollen. The temperature was now 39.6 C, and he would growl if we tried to touch the area. Now I gave a one-off dose of Arnica 1M for the fear of
touch and possible injury. Today we sent him home with Apis 200c to take each 3 hours.
The next morning the swelling was almost fully gone (second photo) with no further redness and pain on touch. The temperature was now normal, and he was happy and well.
Iam certain that such an infection would have formed an abscess requiring surgery if treated with antibiotics.
