It is possible in some cases to use the local remedies to improve the patient to the point that constitutional treatment can cure them, or at least greatly improve them further. Otherwise, the local remedies aid greatly in palliation. (I also use local remedies in CKD, although I do not have an understanding of as many as FM. But Chininum arsenicosum, which he did not mention, is often a specific palliative for CKD in cats. I mostly use a 12C weekly. But maybe I need to consider adding a constitutional remedy once the Chin ars helps.)
In the veterinary lectures, we had colleagues from Peru, India, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy with many interesting lectures. Dra. Cinty Gonzaga Rodriguez from
Peru gave an overview of Zincum metallicum with ten cases. Among the cases were a nervous dog who barked a lot, walked like crazy after vaccines and who was dependent upon the guardian, a dog with barking and nosebleed who did not get along with other dogs [Ferrum series], a vomiting cat with red gums and enlarged lymph nodes who got sick when the guardian was away for a few days, a Peruvian naked dog with convulsions who also masturbated, a dog with orchitis who was affectionate but fearful, especially of rain on the metal roof and of flies and bees. Zincum is in fear of noise and improved all symptoms including the Orchitis. Another dog who did not like to be alone also responded to Zincum, as did a dog with herniated cervical disc disease. Most responded within 24 hours.
Her conclusion for Zincum is: Extremely sensitive animals, sick because of being alone or dislikes being alone, even if in someone’s care, cheerful, sociable, loquacious, with uncontrolled rapid evolution of pathologies and explosive personality.
Dra. Gonzaga Rodriguez also has published a nice small Materia Medica (in Spanish) on several not-commonly used remedies, like Scorpion, Aethusa, Ambra grisea, Strontium carbonicum, and some spider remedies.
Dr. Vikram Jani from India, working at a very large dairy with 1.6 million animals (!), discussed treatment of retained placenta in ruminants, with 4365 cases. Manual removal of retained placenta leads to pyometra and metritis and also mastitis, with decreased milk yield and sometimes infertility. He used three remedies in the study: Kali phos C200, Puls C200, or Cantharis C30. Kali phos was “wonderful” when animals feel physical and nervous fatigue due to straining during delivery. Pulsatilla he used according to the disposition of the animal, and Cantharis
was best for expelling the placenta in extremely sensitive patients with lancinating burning pain (presumably they were especially pain sensitive as observed by caretakers). He found over 80% improvement with each remedy.
Dr. Kamal Jindal of India presented an interesting lecture on Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle and water buffaloes, a pox viral disease. Animals are very ill, with fever, nodules on the skin, enlarged lymph nodes, and abortion, sloughing and suppuration of the skin. The pain is so sensitive that animals cannot sit and the disease lasts two to five weeks. There was an epidemic during which “thousands and thousands” of animals died. His main remedies were Hepar sulph, Mercurius solubilis, Kali iodatum, and Silicea, and he achieved over 50 to 86% cure rates, depending upon the chosen remedy.
Dra. Isabel Serrano, a Spanish colleague who works and lives in Germany, presented an interesting discourse on the history of Ergot and the remedy Secale. She reminded us to remember Secale in black, dried, ugly and painful wounds which are usually worse with heat and better with cold. Also, the remedy can be useful in navicular disease and laminitis as well as abortion. Wounds bleed profusely, also metritis with hemorrhage from the uterus, and wounds become gangrenous.
There were other interesting lectures as well, but the next three I found very important in their synchronicity, as all three discussed the importance of rhythm.
Dott. Masimo Bertani of Italy presented a lecture about a dairy farm which he treated for 20 years to improve the health with homeopathy. He treated breeding animals miasmatically as well as made sure there was at least one natural breeding of the females during their lifetime. Most pregnancies were from artificial insemination.
