6 THE SOJOURNER
FROM THE WEBMASTER
Brothers:
I’ll make this short, sweet, and to the point.
I have just sold my home of 35 years that was 4,000 sqft on 1.25 acres and moved to a new
home just shy of 2000 sqft on 0.15 acres. This is somewhat like trying to stuff 10 pounds
into a 5 pound sack. So, you might suppose (and you’d be right) that I’m swamped.
So, when you come in and tell me you want “access” to the website, I naturally assume that you don’t already
have an account and begin processing you for a new account. I have been surprised recently by a number of
you asking for access, when in fact you already have it. So, in reality, you have just forgotten your password
and/or your userid. Telling me that you have an account but have forgotten your password/userid may be
embarrassing to you, but it’s IMPORTANT for me because it will end up saving me time and trouble when the
system rejects me trying to create an account for you and tells me you already have an account. I then have to
delete the old account and create a new account, and some of you simply do not provide a desired password …
so I give you one created by the system – which is VERY ugly, VERY unrememberable, and VERY secure.
It’s up to you to figure out how to remember it or change it to something you would like, and if you had told
me in your request what password you would like, it would save both of us some frustration and extra
unnecessary work.
Brothers – there are over 2000 of you on the website with accounts. I have NO interest in remembering or
tracking your userids and passwords. I can retrieve your userid but not your password – which is encrypted
and I do not have the “key” to the kingdom.
Lastly, MMS is a completely different beastie. When you simply say “I can’t login to see my profile” you
probably don’t know that there is a “profile” in MMS and a separate profile on the website. I need to know
WHICH “site” you are trying to log into – because they have different requirements and while you CAN have
the same username and password on MMS that you use on the NSI website, it is NOT required.
PLEASE … think before you ask for help. Try to make my life just a little less complicated, most especially
for a while as I try to settle into my new digs. Right now, I’m working from a laptop on the dinner table, so
sometimes it’s not as easy and direct for me to do things as it would be with my normal desktop.
Meanwhile, enjoy your chapter activities with your brothers and their families.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Bill Hickey
