Gene Autry (1907-1998) Singer, Actor, Cowboy
Texas born on September 29, 1907, Orvon Grover ‘Gene’ Autry, widely known
as the singing cowboy, appeared on the Stanley Theater Stage in February 1963.
Discovered by Humorist Will Rogers, his career was multifaceted - known as a
country singer and songwriter, musician, actor in motion pictures, radio, and
television, rodeo performer, and successful businessman. Appearing in more
than 90 films, he also hosted the mid 1900’s TV weekly, The Gene Autry Show.
Perhaps his most famous tunes were Back in the Saddle Again and You Are My
Malio Cardarelli Sunshine, his memorable holiday tunes are Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer,
Over the next several Frosty the Snowman, and Here Comes Santa Claus. Sales of his recorded songs
