The 9th FMSU Cases Colors While Ushering in a New Era
The 9th Financial Management Support Unit concluded over
80 years of service to the US Army on 7 September 2023.
Established on 1 November 1942 as the 9th Finance Section,
the unit’s history depicts this hard-charging and dynamic unit
as a key component in the Second World War, the Korean War,
and the Vietnam conflict. The 9th’s lineage gives a glimpse at
the lightning speed at which finance missions collide with US
strategic and operational requirements, with numerous unit
changes over those 80 years.

both current and former, Mr. & Mrs. Vanderlinde. The two met on-post in the 1990’s as
Finance Soldiers on Fort Riley and combined, exceed 75 years of service to Finance.
Friends, family and Soldiers from throughout the Fort Riley area and Finance Corps gathered at the
Riley Conference Center, celebrating the Unit’s service to the Big Red One. Few Soldiers will
remain after the 15 October “E-Date,” with many headed to Finance Battalions, the newly “minted”
Finance Support Center (FISC) or Army Financial Management Command (AFMC).
9th FMSU Alumni traveled from all over to commemorate the Unit’s inactivation. Some Soldiers
have served with the 9th FMSU since its Fort Riley activation in 2018.
