Leaders in Legal Business
Chapter 8 - The Future of Legal Business - The Times Are A’Changin.1
The future of the business of law is evolving every day in many different forums: law schools, the legal
press, seminars, conferences, the courts, businesses, agencies, and the interactions among individuals. It is usually
only in hindsight that the changes can clearly be seen, since most are evolutionary rather than revolutionary.
The central focus of this book is the degree to which the profession of law has evolved as a profession
toward becoming the business of law. The services and products that have created this evolution (or, as some
would state, revolution) have been evaluated by leaders in each of the business segments.
There are an infinite number questions. The most basic are:
Where will the business of law be in five years?
How will services and products be delivered to lawyers, law firms, and corporate counsel?
What new products and services will be offered for the practice of law?
As a result of technology, what new models will be developed to enhance the services and products
provided to the legal profession?
How will lawyers, law firms, corporate counsel, businesses, and individuals adapt and move forward with
these new products and services?
The authors of this chapter will provide readers with their insights and projections as to the future of legal
business.
