ACHIEVER
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
In 1981, Link Phyliss Mickens Fields was disturbed by all the negative press concerning African American male youth. At that time, she was a mother of 3, her youngest was a boy who was a senior in high school. She knew firsthand through her work as a social worker, her involvement in Jack and Jill of America and through the services she gave to her children’s schools there were amazing, brilliant, and kind young African American male high school seniors who were working, striving, and contributing to our community. Why don’t we hear about them and their accomplishments in the media she thought? Link Phyliss immediately shared her thoughts with her Chapter President, Link Rubye Mills, and her Link Sisters. And that year The Achiever Program was born. I thank and acknowledge our Alumni Links for creating such an outstanding program that has uplifted countless families of color.
Forty years later I am honored to represent 46 amazing women of the Angel City Chapter of The Links Incorporated, as we present and celebrate 30 amazing young men.
Thank you to the corporate and individual sponsors and
donors that have contributed to the successes and accolades
bestowed on us. Financial, in-kind and talent resources provided to our chapter is the lifeblood that keeps this strong body going. The Angel City Chapter and Achievement Trust sincerely thank you for your support.
It takes a team of dedicated volunteers to execute our mission. From Life Skills coaching, Financial planning, Etiquette lessons, a Social Responsibly workshop, community service and informational and fun meetings with our Confreres – all aimed at advancing the opportunities of our Achievers “from the classroom to the boardroom”. Thank you for your continuous support of our program and our chapter!
In these trying and unprecedented times I am so proud of my chapter for not giving up on our young men, Cheers to another 40 years!
Yours in Service,
Link Dora Mayo Wise
President
