Affair of Honor as it is known now, evolved from being known as the L’Affaire D’ Honneur. Whether it is in English or French, it’s still the Affair of Honor!!

Forty years ago, the Angel City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated began a program to assist male African American high school seniors prepare for college and meet their life’s objectives. established the goals, designed six-months of activities, wrote the Achiever Oath, and named it, “THE ACHIEVER PROGRAM”.
President, Dr. Rubye Jackson Mills, and the Members of Angel City Chapter signed off the proposed Service Model and the Achiever Program became a “Reality”, later a “Signature Program” and now a “Legacy”. The Achiever Program has been recognized in the Community for the many assets made available to African American Male
High School Students as they pursue their educational goals and life’s objectives. Many articles on the Achiever Program have appeared in the Los Angeles Sentinel. The Achiever Program is a renowned Program that has won many awards and been duplicated by other Link Chapters throughout the United States.
Transitioning over 40 years
In the beginning, Achievers had a Family Picnic which later evolved into Family Day.
In the beginning, Achievers had escorts up until 1993; now they are solo.
In the beginning, the Achievers were dressed in tuxedo attire, with top hats and they carried canes. In the beginning, it was the Waltz, now it is various routines and dances. In the beginning, the Affair of Honor was held at Beverly Hilton Hotel and/or Century Plaza and transitioned from a luncheon to a theatre style event in 2014 arriving at the Saban Theatre on Wilshire. The last in person Affair of Honor was held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre and Club in 2019. In 2020, we hosted our first Virtual Affair of Honor which was spectacular.
