ear Parents,
Now that we are in our second week of term, the school is in full swing
Dand the classrooms are buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. Our children
in the Primary school have launched into a range of exciting new topics that promise
to inspire curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world around them. From
Ancient Greece, The Titanic, The Tudors, and village settlements to pirates, toys, and
environmental sustainability, each theme offers rich opportunities for cross-curricu-
lar learning. Meanwhile, in Key Stage 2, rehearsals are well underway for this term’s
much-anticipated production of The Sound of Music. The children are working hard
to bring this beloved musical to life, and we can’t wait to see the final performance!
In Early Years, our carefully planned topics provide rich, cross-curricular learning
experiences that support all areas of development. This term, Playgroup children are
strengthening their fine motor skills through their engaging “Funky Fingers” topic,
while Nursery is embarking on an exciting “My Neighbourhood Adventure”, exploring
the people and places in their local community. In Reception, the children are travel-
ling Around the World, learning about different people, animals, and cultures. These The Power of Storytelling: Immersing Our Children in High-Quality
topics are designed to ignite curiosity and support key areas such as communication Literature
and language, understanding the world, expressive arts and design, maths, and so much
more. At Abuja Prep, we believe that strong writers begin as enthusiastic readers. One
of the most effective ways to develop a child’s writing skills is to immerse them in
high-quality literature that excites their imagination, expands their vocabulary, and
deepens their understanding of storytelling. That’s why, as part of our Abuja Prep
Literacy Sequence, each writing unit begins with a dedicated immersion week.
During this week, children explore carefully chosen texts that model the genre
they will be writing in. Through rich reading experiences, dramatic re-enactments,
and vocabulary-building activities, pupils begin to understand how authors cre-
ate meaning, build tension, and craft engaging characters. This approach not only
strengthens reading comprehension but also gives children the tools and inspira-
tion they need to become confident, creative writers.
