VISIT TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

his year, our Enrichment Trip took us to The National Assembly. We had the

opportunity to meet several distinguished individuals, including His Excellency
TBasheer Lado, who is the current (Special Adviser to The President of Nigeria on
Senate Matters). We also met the current Speaker of the House of Representatives.

We discovered many fascinating facts we had not previously known. The National
Assembly is the legislative arm of government and is made up of two chambers: the
Senate, whose members are called Senators, and the House of Representatives, whose
members are referred to as Honourables. Each state is represented by three Senators,

while the number of Honourable Members depends on the state’s population. In total,
The National Assembly comprises of 109 Senators and 360 Honourable Members.

During our visit, we saw a striking statue of a beast holding a calf, surrounded by people.
This statue is known as the Mace and it symbolises peace and authority. We also
watched a live broadcast of a session involving discussions among the Honourable
      Members.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are truly grateful to our teachers
and The National Assembly for making it possible.
