As the children packed up their fruits and ideas,
they left the classroom not just with knowledge,
but with a deeper appreciation for the hidden
journeys happening all around them in nature.
Year 5 Koalas had unlocked the mysteries of
seed dispersal, and it was an adventure they
would never forget!
Bright and early, the students arrived with bags
filled with fruit—apples, tangerines, pawpaw and
avocado. The room was filled with vibrant col-
ours and the sweet smell of ripened produce.
The children discussed in groups how the
different seeds from the different fruits were
adapted for seed dispersal. Like the pawpaw,
birds love the sweet flesh but drop the seeds
as they fly. The tangerine seeds inside are often
carried away by animals or humans who discard
them after eating.
