Regent Girls Show
Grit On The Pitch
- By Nadyne Muhammed Dahiru | Year 8 Benue
he Regent Secondary School girls’ football team recently
participated in the highly anticipated Inter-School Foot-
Hball Tournament held on Saturday, November 16th. The
competition brought together schools like Loyola Jesuit, OMC,
ISC, and others, with a variety of experienced teams competing
on the day.
Though Regent didn’t secure a top spot in the tournament, the
experience proved to be a valuable learning opportunity. As I
always say, “Winning is not everything, but making an effort as
a team is.”
The tournament’s challenges were evident at the start. With
nerves running high, the Regent girls struggled to find their
rhythm in the early matches. “We weren’t really confident at
first, so we didn’t start well,” I admitted. However, as the games
progressed, the team began to find its footing. The players ral-
lied together, showing true grit and determination.
The experience not only tested the players’ abilities on the field
but also instilled a deeper sense of teamwork. The lessons
learned will surely propel the Regent girls’ football team to even
greater heights in future competitions. I added, “It taught us to
try harder and gave us a better idea of what to expect next.”
While the tournament was a stepping stone in terms of compe-
tition, our spirit, growth, and perseverance were the real winners
of the day. With the right attitude and continuous effort, there’s
no telling how far we girls can go in the future.
