Welcome to Term 3! The children are back
to school after the short holiday, ready to
continue an exciting time of learning. We
are looking forward to a thrilling learn-
ing journey with your child, and to you
for your splendid cooperation on what we
hope will be a productive term.
All our learning units this term have been
specially designed to help your child ex-
ceed their expectations. Children will be
reading, researching, writing, illustrating,
working on their own and working in
groups. We will be checking how well your

child has learned through particular
activities and by asking children to explain
their work, perhaps to you.
As you are aware, at The Regent School,
attendance and punctuality is something
we take very seriously. It is believed that
missing the odd day at school here and
there cannot do much harm. However,
even taking a short amount of time off can
be problematic. Your child might fall
behind in their work and the amount of
progress they make could be affected. If
there are gaps in their learning, they will
miss key sessions that are planned to
diminish those gaps. There could be other
problems too. Children who miss school
are missing out on the social aspects of
school which affects their ability to build
relationships with their peers and it can
hinder their confidence to attempt new
work and work alongside others. Did you
know that for every day of school missed
by a student, it will reduce their attendance

meal pattern to ensure balanced energy

children should have three main meals

to sustain energy throughout the day and
provide beneficial nutrients.
Finally, a very crucial part of the term is
our end of year assessments. These include
the GL Progress Tests in English, Maths
and Science as well as the NGRT Reading
test for our primary years. The progress
tests assess pupils’ true comprehension
of the core curriculum subjects, thereby
helping teachers to identify which
students have made progress in
comparison to their baseline data that we
collected with CAT4, INCAS and BASE in
September. For our reception classes,
it is the BASE Progress, the end of year
comparison tool to Reception BASE. The
assessment provides us with an efficient,
child-friendly and reliable way of
assessing literacy, language and
