Shadow
Investigation
his term, our Year 5 students have been exploring the fascinating world of light as part of
their science curriculum. They conducted an exciting investigation into how shadows
Tchange throughout the day and what factors influence their length and direction.
Armed with measuring tapes, chalk, and plenty of curiosity, the students ventured outdoors
to record the length of shadows at different times of the day. They discovered that shadows
are longest in the morning and evening and shortest around midday when the sun is
highest in the sky. Through their observations, they learnt how the Earth’s rotation impacts
the sun’s apparent position, bringing science to life in a hands-on, engaging way.
