A RESEARCH Academic Research Presentation 2024
JOURNEY
Article By Zhaafirah Inuwa | Year 10 Benue
On May 20th, I presented an academic re-
search project on assisted suicide with Chida-
lu Paul-Nwafor. This experience deepened my
understanding of the subject and exposed me
to various topics covered by other presenters.
Preparing for this presentation required ex-
tensive research and a thorough grasp of
ethical, legal, and medical perspectives.
Chidalu and I collaborated effectively, de-
veloping a comprehensive presentation.
Mastering the timing of our presen-
tation was challenging. We prac-
tised rigorously to ensure our delivery
was both comprehensive and concise.
Despite preparation, I felt unsettled be-
fore going on stage. The pressure of pre-
senting was overwhelming, but as I spoke,
I gradually became more comfortable.
Reflecting on this experience, I encourage
Year 9 students to participate in such events.
It’s an opportunity to delve into a topic, devel-
op public speaking skills, and gain confidence.
The event was a valuable learning experience,
fostering collaboration and deepening our
understanding of complex issues like assisted
suicide.
