                  As Alston, Swann was awarded the Central Africa War Medal.

                  The verbatim report of the expedition that follows was written by Alston
           very shortly after its successful conclusion. It is a first draft written  somewhat
           shakily in pencil on lined pages from a notebook and has never previously been
           published. Alston notes that he was slightly feverish at the time of writing. The
           original manuscript is in the possession of the writer.
