Nkhata Bay on the 23 arrived at Kota Kota on the afternoon of the 24 December.
The next day was spent collecting porters for the expedition, there were a great
many men at Kota Kota, but they were most unwilling to be engaged owing to the
bad weather.

We left Kota Kota on the morning of the 26 , heavy rain falling at the
time. Mr. A. J. Swann, the Political Officer for the Marimba District, accompanied
the column, having previously also offered his services as a Volunteer.
