          Kajura.
                 Lieutenant Phillips, R. N. R., embarked at the same time in charge of the
          sick and wounded [from the Mlozi campaign] for Fort Johnston.
                 The steamer stopping at Deep Bay on the evening of the 22  and at

          Nkhata Bay on the 23 arrived at Kota Kota on the afternoon of the 24  December.
          The next day was spent collecting porters for the expedition, there were a great
          many men at Kota Kota, but they were most unwilling to be engaged owing to the
          bad weather.

                 We left Kota Kota on the morning of the 26 , heavy rain falling at the
          time. Mr. A. J. Swann, the Political Officer for the Marimba District, accompanied
          the column, having previously also offered his services as a Volunteer.
