     4.6.1 Field Methods
                Questionnaire (Human-Wildlife Conflict)
Recognising the wildlife species in the proposed project areas and its potential to cause
human-wildlife conflict (HWC) is crucial. A questionnaire survey is a technique for gathering
statistical information about a population’s attributes, attitudes, or actions by a structured set of
questions (see Table 4.6). The respondents are approximately 10 to 20 residents living within the
5 km radius of the proposed project area (zone of study). The data would be very helpful in
predicting human-wildlife conflict in the future in the surrounding communities, and also to
understand the human perception towards HWC.
Other methods include HWC Report by PERHILITAN, surveying recent habitat degradation,
and public report or news (media). Years database from HWC Report by PERHILITAN such as
species involved, frequency, occurrence, conflict pattern and population can be used as a
reference and secondary data. This is also to ensure the best mitigation measure can be done.
Identifying recent degraded habitats based on the proposed project site can predict potential
HWC occurrence based on mapping analysis using ArcGIS software.
