Diamond and Doubled Diamond Knot
First tie a crown knot, but do not work it tight; then tie a wall knot beneath;
then tuck each strand up through the middle. Special care must be taken that
these last tucks all follow a similar path. Treat all strands equally! The knot can
now be worked tight, a bit at a time, making sure that the finished knot is good
and symmetrical. The rope strands can be relaid up, or teased out to make a
tassel. To make a bigger, more handsome knot, before the final series of tuck
ups, follow the crown round so as to double it, then follow the wall round
before the final tuck up through the middle.
This knot is splendid to decorate a knife or whistle lanyard, or to give a grip
at the end of a rope used to pull a bucket on board ship.
Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices
1 Start with a crown knot.
2 Tie a wall knot below the crown knot.
3 Tuck one end up through the middle of
the crown. Make the tuck so the strand
has passed round itself.
4 Repeat with the other two strands. They
should all form a similar symmetric
pattern. Pull tight to achieve a finished
knot.
