PURPOSE OF STUDY
This paper, therefore, provides an insight into the role of ICT in changing academic curricula
in Africa’s higher educational system, will show how the infusion of technological innovations in
information and communication structures will impact the future instructional materials and content
delivery in colleges and universities in Africa. It will also review ICT policy and integration approach
in the school systems in various African nations.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PAPER
The significance of this research lies in its assumption that information communication
technology (ICT) would play a considerable role in the changing of academic curricula in the African
higher educational system as it has done in the civilized Western democracies. The understanding
that ICT, if adequately utilized, will enhance the educational system in Africa is very obvious looking
at the tremendous positive role it has played in changing the educational landscape in most of the
Western civilized nations of the world.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
This paper is anchored on Rogers (1962) diffusion of innovation theory whose premise is
predicated on how, why, and at what rate new ideas and technology spread through cultures. In view
of Rogers’ (1962) conceptual framework, the theme of this paper, therefore, hinges on the process by
which ICT is communicated through certain channels over time among the various African nations’
institutions of learning.
