As we move full force into the new academic year, I want to

make you aware of some important changes at the senior

administrative level, effective September 5, 2017:

Dr. Weldon Jackson has stepped down from his administrative appointment
as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. He will join the faculty

as Professor in the Department of History and Government in the spring of

2018. Associate Provost Guy-Alain Amoussou will immediately assume
oversight responsibilities as Interim Provost and Vice President for

Academic Affairs until further notice.
Dr. Richard Lucas has resigned his position as Vice President for

Institutional Advancement to pursue other opportunities outside of the

university. Ms. Yvette Caldwell, Assistant Vice President for Development,
will serve as Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement. A search

process will get underway as soon as possible to recruit candidates for the

position of Vice President for Advancement.
Ms. Karen Johnson Shaheed, Executive Vice President and General Counsel,

will take on additional duties of the Chief of Staff. Attorney Shaheed has

been with the university since 2007 and has outstanding leadership abilities
that have served the Of ce of the President well. I am pleased that she will

continue in her role in overseeing legal and governmental affairs, while
assuming the important responsibilities as Chief of Staff. Please join me in

congratulating her.

I ask that you give your full support to Attorney Shaheed and

to the interim appointees as they work to maintain the critical

operations of these units during this time of transition.
