A student is allowed to attempt the examination no more than
two times.
A student should pass the qualifying examination to remain in
the program. If the student does not pass the qualifying
examination after two trials, the student may be dismissed.
The Comprehensive Examination
The comprehensive examination covers the student’s knowledge area.
There are five knowledge areas, and the student selects three of these
five knowledge areas listed below.
1. Computer Systems
2. Software Engineering and Programming Languages.
3. Database Systems and Artificial Intelligence.
4. Multimedia Technology/Computer Vision.
5. Scientific Computing
The comprehensive examination is a written examination, and
is offered twice a year, in February and in October. The grade
is a pass/fail.
A student is allowed to attempt the exam no more than two
times.
A student should pass the comprehensive examination within
the first five years in the program. If a student does not pass
within the time period, the Doctoral Program Committee will
review the status of the student to determine whether the
student will remain in the program or be dismissed.
