The strategic planning of parks and green spaces requires an in-depth understanding of
the long-standing difficulties in the development field of parks and green spaces in Taipei.
In addition, the project proposed various development strategies based on the discussions
between several experts, scholars, local feedback, and domestic and foreign experience.This
book explores and collects the historical development of “park and green space” in Taipei.
Looking into the environmental traits of Northern Taiwan, it examines the green resources
that are linked with daily living in the city and takes a closer look at the bio-feature of the 12
administrative districts in Taipei.In addition, it discusses the planning tactics that are closely
relating to the communities and neighborhoods, such as ecological rejuvenation of parks/
green spaces, the design that responding to climate change, the practice of inclusive planning,
garden city, and hosting the flower show. It also includes the related policies and practice in
Taiwan and abroad.This book expounds the importance of establishing a system of park/
green space across Taipei, and present a map of park/ green space for Taipei citizens.
Looking into people’s behavioral observations in the park, parks serve multi-purpose use. The
parks in Taipei represent the culture and living values of the citizens of Taipei.The activities
presented in the park are also quite different from other parks around the world.We deeply
hope that we will gradually create parks that not only focusing on structural engineering,
but also focusing on design that embraces environmental characteristics and is in line with
“locality”. In addition to creating a space for rest, it also creates a visual and auditory space in
the city with the five senses of look, hear, smell, touch and taste.
