Ezell Berrien, who transitioned on Saturday, October 9th, 2021, will be held Saturday, October 16th, 12:00 p.m., at 34th Street Church of God, 3000 N. 34th St., Bishop Thomas Scott, Senior Pastor, of- ficiating. The interment will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rev. Ezell Berrien was born May 2, 1933, in Rincon, Georgia, to the union of Woodrow Berrien and Lydia Berrien. He departed this earthly life on Oc- tober 9, 2021, at Tampa General Hospital while surrounded by family.
He was considered the patri- arch of the Berrien family as the oldest living male. Even though this loss is colossal to our fam- ily, we’re contented that the Lord’s Will was done.
His parents relocated their family to Ft. Meade, Florida, where he attended the public schools of Polk County. At the age of 18, he was drafted during wartime to the United States Army in May 1951, where he served during the Korean Con- flict. He was Honorably Dis- charged in 1953.
After returning to the States, he met the love of his life, Mil- dred Campbell and changed her last name to Berrien on May 26, 1954. They were married for 44 years and added 10 children to their union.
He was a hardworking man, incredible provider and protec- tor, and loved his family dearly. He taught us so many practical and valuable lessons throughout our lives, most of all how to love and serve God, as well as serve
others.
He joined and served as the
Chairman Deacon of New Progress M.B. Church and was later called to the Ministerial Work of the Gospel. He was Or- dained as an Elder on August 16, 1981.
He later served as the Assis- tant Pastor at New Mt. Silla M.B. Church. He then had the honor of becoming the Senior Pastor of Ebenezer M.B. Church, Tampa for several years and the Senior Pastor of First Corinthians M.B. Church before retiring as a Pastor in 1995.
He was very passionate about his assignments in Pas- torship, and his overarching themed message was, “God is Love.”
