FAMILY NOTICE
MR. DERRICK EARL THORNTON
Derrick Earl Thornton, 64, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on October 2, 2021. Derrick was born on June 19, 1957 to Henry E. Thornton and Queen Esther Neal Thornton and later adopted by Gwendolyn Thompson Thorn-
ton.Derrick was baptized at Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. A. K. Surrett, Sr. He gradu- ated from Bloomington High School, where he garnered a wrestling scholarship to Eastern Illinois University after an out- standing 31-0 record and being named District Wresting Cham- pion both his Junior and Senior years of high school.
Derrick went on to serve as District Manager for Jewel Osco in Decatur, Illinois before mov- ing to Tampa, Florida, where he developed a strong work ethic, cultivated lifelong friendships describing him as genuine and compassionate. He never met a stranger, and he minded his own business. He was a God-fearing and God-serving man! His love for his family was uncondi- tional.
Derrick leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughters Skye Derrice Thornton Lewis (Eddie Lewis, Jr.) of Chicago, Illinois and Temeka Thornton Billups of Carlock, Illinois; 4 grandchildren, Ayeden Lewis, Larry Billups II, Telarrah Billups, and LaTre Billups; sisters Ruby Brown, In- naJoy Thornton (both of Birm- ingham, Alabama); Muriel Thornton, Alice Moss, Jackquice (William) Mitchell, and Donna (James) Thornton; brother, Quinn (Brenda) Thornton all of Bloomington, Illinois, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and two brothers Johnny Brown and Michael (Fritzie) Thornton.
A memorial service is planned for October 16, 2021 at 12 p. m. in Tampa, Florida, at Picnic Island 7409 Picnic Island Blvd., Pavil- ion #610 Tampa, Florida 33616. A graveside service will take place in Bloomington, Illinois at a later date.

Although it’s been 5 years since you went home to be with the Lord, it’s not a day we don’t think about you, and all the good times we shared.
You are truly missed by your family and friends.
Police are investigating an accident that claimed the life of one man and left two others injured. The accident took place at the intersection of U. S. Highway 301 and Willow Road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 64-year- old Sun City man was driv- ing a 2016 Honda Fit, traveling eastbound on the driveway of 18001 South U. S. Highway 301, approach- ing U. S. Highway 301.
The second vehicle, a 2010 Ford Fusion, driven by a 33-year-old Temple Ter- race resident, was traveling southbound on U. S. High- way 301, approaching the driveway of 18001 South U.

The first driver failed to
stop. He entered the inter- section and was struck by the second vehicle of the second vehicle.
Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch running paral- lel to the east shoulder of the road.
The 64-year-old driver later died at a local hospital. The driver of the second ve- hicle and his passenger, a 26-year-old woman from Wimauma, were both air- lifted to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The investigation into the accident took place shortly after 9 p.m., Saturday, is continuing.
