WW II Marine Celebrates 96th Birthday
World War II Montford Point Marine Corporal Ernest Sneed recently celebrated his 96th birthday on June 18. Corporal Sneed is shown accepting the Con- gressional Gold Medal presented to him by President Barack Obama and the Congress of the United States, August 25, 2012. He is a member of Jefferson County VFW Post 251 and the last and oldest living World War II Marine, Black or white, residing in Jefferson County, Monticello, Florida.

Killed In Single
Car Accident
A 20-year-old man died Monday afternoon after being in- volved in a traffic accident. The accident took place in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 shortly before 1:30 p.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Mitchell Joseph Marlowe, of Tampa, was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata on Interstate 75 approaching the Brandon Boulevard exit. For undetermined reasons, Marlowe lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway, traveled onto the grassy shoulder, and collided with a roadway sign support pole. After striking the pole, the vehicle rotated and came to rest in the wood line.
Marlowe was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
