Knicks Guard Calls For Carmelo Anthony To
Be Signed
CARMELO ANTHONY
Carmelo Anthony is still without an NBA team, and one player on his former club would like to see that change.
On Sunday, New York Knicks guard Allonzo Trier called for the exiled 10-time All-Star to be signed with a tweet that read “Free Melo” and tagged Anthony.
Trier, who just had a strong rookie season with the Knicks as an undrafted free agent, was never teammates with Anthony in New York. Having been born in 1996, it’s a good bet that Melo was one of the players he grew up idol- izing as well.
Lonzo Ball Is Excited For His ‘Fresh Start’ With Pelicans
LONZO BALL
Lonzo Ball has had a rather interesting NBA career so far. Between his Dad basi- cally proclaiming him to be a Hall of Famer from before it even began, to being touted as the next great Lakers point guard once they landed him in the draft, to then being just a piece in Anthony Davis trade, it’s been a lot of ups and downs for Ball.
Last season was definitely hard for Ball. It’s difficult to play well when you have to spend half of it wondering about trade rumors. While he made it through the deadline in L.A., eventually, that is what happened, and it would have been easy for Ball to let his frustrations consume him and go into New Orleans with a negative attitude, but he’s vowed to not do that.

Missed Rich Paul’s Call
Pernell Whitaker, who forged a reputation as ar- guably the greatest defensive boxer who ever lived, died late Sunday in Virginia Beach, Virginia, when he was struck by a car while crossing a bridge. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
He was 55.
A gold-medal winner on the legendary 1984 U. S. Olympic team, Whitaker was elected to the Interna- tional Boxing Hall of Fame in 2006, his first year of eligibil- ity. He won world champi- onships at lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight and super welterweight. He was the lineal champion at lightweight and welter- weight.
At his peak, he was almost impossible to hit, fighting out of a crouch and swiveling like a corkscrew out of the way of punches.
“He was an original and will be remembered as one of the most talented boxers of all-time,” his promoter, Kathy Duva, said. “ ... While he was far from a per-

fect human being, he was pretty close to a perfect fighter. In the ring was where he was most happy and in control. I will choose to re- member him in the pocket, making his opponent miss and letting the world know that nobody could touch him.
“I love him very much, in spite of and because of his flaws. I’m going to miss him very much.”
Whitaker, who was 40- 4-1 with 17 knockouts and a no contest, was also on the wrong end of two of the worst decisions in boxing history.
Anthony Davis is offi- cially a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
The now-former New Or- leans Pelicans star openly wanted a trade from the team during the trade deadline, and while the situation was not re- solved in the days and weeks after he said he wanted out, Davis eventually got to team up with LeBron James in L.A.
The trade was announced a few weeks ago and became official on July 6, and on Sat- urday, Davis met with the media for the first time as a member of the Lakers. During his availability, Davis re- vealed the rather unique cir- cumstances under which he learned about the deal be- coming official.
You see, AD was watching a movie, because he is a human, and sometimes, hu- mans like watching movies. He got a call from his agent,

Rich Paul, which he didn’t answer, because he was watching a movie and he would rather not answer his phone during a movie, even if he’s not watching in a theater. After his attempts to call back were unsuccessful, Davis hopped onto Instagram and saw he was moved.
The two eventually did get in touch to talk things through, but this is still a hi- larious story, even if its main lesson — answer your phone during movies — is one that some will certainly view as controversial.

New Balance just received a fresh new look. The classic sneakers released a campaign on Monday (July 8) with spe- cial appearances from recently signed Los Angeles Clippers Kawhi Leonard and ERYS artist Jaden Smith.
The launch of its newest movement "Runs in the Fam- ily" celebrates the release of the modernized 997Sport kicks, an update to the origi- nal.
In just one minute, the largest athletic superstars in- cluding Champions League winner Mané from Liverpool F.C., Olympic athlete Sydney McLaughlin, pro-skater Jamie Foy, Indians short- stop Francisco Lindor and more appear.
Smith's single "I" from his newest album is played throughout the visual. The
Giannis Antetokoun- mpo and Nike have finally showed the world what the Greek Freak’s signature shoe looks like, and now we’re see- ing some of the fun colorways they have planned for the shoe outside of its official re- leases.
The Freak 1 was an- nounced shortly after the sea- son ended, giving us a first look at the long-rumored sig- nature shoe from the Nike athlete.
First up is a colorway that pokes fun at Antetokoun- mpo’s last name, which has caused plenty of people some difficulty in saying over the
years. Antetokounmpo de- buted the shoe himself in Los Angeles when he showed up to a Drew League game wear- ing the new colorway.
Shortly thereafter, the Bucks described the shoe in some detail and the origin of the colorway, which both honors his roots and pokes fun at people saying his name wrong.

Los Angeles Clippers col- ored kicks were unveiled by New Balance earlier this week. The OMN1S immediately sold out as reported by HighSnobi- ety but a wider release is soon to drop. Throughout July, the sneaker company will unveil inside-look videos of the members featured in the "Runs in the Family" cam- paign, diving into their indi- vidual stories.
