IN THE SPOTLIGHT
NINA
This week’s Spotlight feature crosses all lines of reason by being so outrageously beautiful. Nina loves being in front of the camera and is a very out- going and fun person. Nina really loves people, and never has a problem fitting in wherever she goes. A woman with strength and intelligence can some- times be intimidating, but Nina doesn’t allow that to change who she is. Congratulations to Nina as this week’s Spotlight feature.

Most authors and writers, poets and story- tellers are familiar with the longstanding book series, ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul.’ When Dr. LaDessa Mitchell learned that she’d have a major publication in the newly released, ‘Chicken Soup for the Souls: I’m Speaking Now: Black Women Share Their Truth in 101 Stories of Love, Courage and Hope,’ she was just thrilled.
“I am very excited to be included in such a prestigious publication because I grew fond of Chicken Soup for the Soul in my younger years. Now it’s become a way to introduce my- self as a writer and author,” she explained.
Dr. Mitchell’s story is entitled ‘In The Long Run.’ It is the first major publication of her writing career. The submission aims to amplify the sentiments of Black women. Her publication stems from experiences with her husband. “My husband enjoys being outdoors -- running. He spent a lot of time outdoors during the pandemic. So many people started getting attacked while they were out, I’d always have to tell him to be careful,” she said. “Even- tually, he got a gym membership and that eased my anxiety.” She shares the story based on her roles and position in life.
Writing under the name of Elle Dee, Ph.D., Dr. Mitchell is the co-host of the pod- cast, “Meet The Mitchells.” Her writing career started as a youngster when she’d write in her personal journal. “That helped to build my writing skills.” After writing her dissertation, she began freelance writing again, which led to In The Long Run.
