At 5 a. m. Sunday morning, Bryant Murray was sitting in a chair outside of a West Tampa duplex playing dominoes. His mother’s house was less than a block away, and his nephew’s home was slightly west of where the domino game was occur- ring.
As Murray, known as Dia- mond to family and friends, sat with his back to the street, he was shot once. When police ar- rived, they found him lying on the ground. He was transported to a local hospital and pro- nounced dead on arrival. He was only 44 years old.
Detectives report that they have been trying to investigate a story of a car driving by, and someone inside the car firing a handgun. However, they have not been able to confirm that because witnesses at the scene have not been cooperating with the investigation.
Diamond was a fixture in West Tampa, and a successful graphic artist. Diamond was one of 13 children and his parents were George Murray, Sr., and Isabelita Rivera.
The entire family has roots in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and are very spiritual and close knit.
On Monday, the family gath- ered across the street from where Diamond was shot for a candlelight vigil in his honor. All of them made the declaration that their brother would not be another “unsolved murder” in Tampa, and they will assist po- lice in every way to find out who is responsible for this.
BRYANT “DIAMOND” MURRAY
“I will always believe some- one had a conversation with Di- amond before he died,” said his sister, Evonne.
“It’s a shame that this hap- pens, and no one seems to care. There were too many people with him when he was shot for none of them to not know some- thing. That’s unacceptable.”
With matriarch Isabelita Rivera out front, her children, Brothland “Birt” Murray, Ann Murray, George Mur- ray, II, Cleveland Murray, Mitchum Murray, Secreen Murray, Belinda Murlin Murray, Lydia Murray, Evonne Murray, Brendalee DeWindt, Mark DeWindt, and Alvin Dewindt, Jr. all vowed to stay by her side until the person responsible for her son’s death is arrested.”
A memorial service for Dia- mond will be held this Satur- day, 1 p. m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center, 2202 North Oregon Avenue. After the serv- ice, a repose will be held and everyone is invited.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Mother Patricia Davis; father, Ivory Boswell, III; grandmother, Eulie Boswell; grandfather, Ivory Boswell, Jr.; uncles, Darrain Boswell, Daniel Davis and Willie Brown; aunts, Karen Boswell, Angela Boswell, Monique Williams, Candice Davis and Dawanna Davis; sisters, Brittany Davis and Meshinque Boswell; brothers, Marva Carley, Mar- ccale Carley, Ivory Boswell, IV, and Ian Boswell; niece, Niyari Moore; nephew, Jaaron Moss; cousin, Jas- mine Boswell; special friend, Kariana Julks; and a host of sorrowing family members and friends.
The visitation and repose of Mr. Ikeim Bobby Boswell will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p. m. at Harmon Funeral Home, 5002 N. 40th Street, Tampa, 33610. The family will receive friends at 7p.m.
