Hymn Of The Week BY CARLTON BURGESS
COACH Foundation Founder:
‘There Is A Blue Print To Make The Black Community Prosper, Again’
“Lord, Don’t Move The Mountain”
In 1992 Doris Akers was honored by the Smith- sonian Institution as "The Foremost Black Gospel Songwriter in the United States.” She wrote her first song at the age of 10. It was entitled “Keep The Fire Burning In Me." She would go on to have an overwhelm- ing impact on the music in- dustry.
In 1945, Gospel pioneer Sallie Martin hired her as pianist and vocalist to tour nationally with the Sallie Martin Singers. Doris continued to write music that demonstrated a strong religious conviction. She formed the Simmons and
DORIS AKERS
Akers Music House to make her compositions available to the public.
It is recorded that Doris and her friend, Mahalia
Jackson, collaborated and wrote the blockbuster Gospel Hymn, "Lord, Don't Move The Mountain." Inez Andrews would go on to record this song and make it even more popular.
Many historians say Doris mastered every as- pect of music including vo- cals, keyboards, choir directing, arranging, com- posing and publishing.
Some of her most popu- lar Gospel Hymns include: Sweet, Sweet Spirit, Lead Me Guide Me, and You Can't Beat God’s Giving.

Reverend Willie G. Dixon, CEO and Founder of The COACH Foundation, Inc., proclaims, the COACH's Blue Print To Make The Black Com- munity Prosper, Again, is God's plan for America.
To prove his point he in- vites the community to join him to see the "free" movie, 13th, this Saturday, February 25th. It will be at 5 PM, at 5508 N. 50th Street, THAP Business Center, also known as The Black Wall Street of East Tampa.
“When we begin to see Black folks spend their money with Black businesses, you will see the Black community pros- per, again!”
Rev. Dixon says the change in the community should begin at “your house, the church house, schoolhouse, courthouse, jailhouse, state house and the White House.
“In the past, our adults would talk with our youth in- stead of talking about our youth.”
He says, the Blue Print will
teach young men how to raise a baby. Then, young ladies will be respected as Black Queens and Princesses, he explained.
“To raise a baby, our young men will demand a job, so they won’t have to sell drugs, rob, or steal, or they won’t end up in our juvenile and adult prison system. This will unplug the ‘school to the prison’ pipeline and mass incarceration, de- signed to create a new form of slavery.
Referring to advice from his mentor, the late Rev. Abra- ham Brown, Rev. Dixon asks the members of church and Greek organizations to go to the streets, and talk with youth, breaking the curse of the theory and teachings of slave master, Willie Lynch.
“When we come together as one community, The COACH Blue Print will make the Black Community Prosper, Again and all our communities in America will be safe and prosper, again.
“Then, as Brother Ray Charles would say, "God will Bless you, America,” Again!”
