Amber Buie received her Bachelor’s degree in Ed- ucation from St. Petersburg College on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The ceremony was held at Tropicana Field.
The daughter of Barbara Buie and the late Johnny Buie, Sr., Amber is the youngest girl of 12 siblings.
As she looks back on her journey to reach college, Amber says it all began with the inspiration from the Boys and Girls Club, under the di- rection of Bertha Gary.
The Middleton High School grad says the Boys and Girls Club “inspired me to reach for the stars and let

me know that there were no limitations on my goals in life,” she said. At Middleton,
she was a member of the Tigers Marching Band and a Dancerette.
Not only was there inspi- ration from the Boys and Girls Club, but encourage- ment from Ms. Carol Stew- art. And, as a student at St. Peter Claver Catholic School, Mrs. Essie Mae Reed was also an inspiration.
“We are so proud of her and her accomplishments,” Mrs. Buie said. “Now since she has graduated, she’ll be taking on the role of being the ‘mother’ of the family and we’ll all receive lots of love,” she said with a chuckle. “Being the baby girl, she often told me that she’s glad she was born to older par- ents,” Mrs. Buie said.
