Couple Who Survived Charlottesville Attack Get Married; Honor Friend
Cosmetic Surgery Before Woman’s Wedding Leaves Her Brain Damaged
LILBURN, GA — A Georgia woman who was set to be mar- ried was left brain damaged after receiving cosmetic sur- gery a few weeks earlier.
Icilma Cornelius, 54, went to the medical spa and cosmetic surgery center of Dr. Windell Boutte in Lilburn, Ga. While she went in for just Botox and another anti- wrinkle treatment, Cornelius was convinced by members of the staff to get cosmetic surgery to give her a flat stomach be- fore her big day. However, dur- ing the surgery, her heart stopped and chaos ensued.
“The office wasn’t equipped to handle the emergency and had to call 911. Paramedics got the patient’s heart going, but getting her in the ambulance was delayed,” writes the At- lanta-Journal Constitution. “Worried about possible infec- tion from open incisions, Boutte and an employee su- tured Cornelius’ skin, and

then, because the stretcher wouldn’t fit in the elevator, paramedics had to carry it down stairs.”
What resulted was perma- nent brain damage and a law- suit against Boutte, who is also being sued by two other former patients who claim she and her staff prioritize money over safety.
Marissa Blair married her love and hero, Marcus Martin last weekend. Martin saved his then fi- ancee during the Charlottesville protest by pushing her out of the way, and he was hit by the car that plowed into the protestors. A photo snapped in the moment shows Martin in midair after being hit.
Less than a year after a car plowed into anti-racist protes- tors in Charlottesville, Vir- ginia, two people who survived the attack got mar- ried and also honored their friend who was killed.
Marcus Martin pushed his then-fiancee, Marissa Blair, out of the way right be- fore a white supremacist could hit her as he intentionally
drove into a crowd protesting the white nationalist Unite the Right rally last August.
Martin’s leg was broken when the car hit him.
Last Saturday, the two fi- nally got married, with 30 vendors helping to pay for their ceremony.
Their close friend, 32-year- old Heather Heyer, was killed in the attack.
The ceremony colors were purple, Heyer’s favorite.
“Without Heather this wouldn’t be possible, and if Heather was still here, Heather would definitely be here on the front row,” Blair said.
Heyer’s mother, Susan Brown, attended the wed- ding and released butterflies in honor of her daughter.

Oakland Community Hosts Massive BBQ In Park Where White
Woman Called Police On Family
Oakland residents of all ages and races held a BBQ festival in protest of a white woman aka BBQ Becky calling police on a Black family a few weeks earlier for barbecuing in the same park.
All-natural, fluoride-free kid’s mouthwash and tooth powder are the newest products offered by African American entrepre- neur, Philip Garner's com- pany, Garner's Garden.
Parents absolutely love the product line for their children because all of the ingredients are all-natural elements including organic neem, tea tree oil, and pepperment oil.
Garner realized that he needed to create a solution that assists in the healing of micro- abrasions that children get on their gums, and repels plaque throughout the entire day via the power of oxygen. And that's ex- actly what his products do.
Philip comments, "Oxygen is the key active ingredient that promotes healthy oral care. And bacteria cannot grow and multi- ply in the presence of oxygen! This is the main factor that sep- arates my oral care from virtu- ally all, mainstream oral care products.”
In 2011, Garner transitioned into a plant-based diet and nat- ural healthy lifestyle. Reflecting on how his grandmother only used olive oil for her hands, his first idea was to create all-nat- ural skin care products, such as personal body butters and bug repellants for adults.
He later expanded his produc- tion to hair care, face care, and oral care (which are his most popular products right now), and his company, Garner’s Gar- den, became an official LLC in 2013.
Garner decided to con- tinue to grow his business or- ganically through word of mouth and direct marketing.
Now he has targeted prod- ucts for children.

OAKLAND, CA — Hundreds of Oakland, Calif., residents of all races were at Oakland’s Lake Merritt Park over last weekend to prove that one Bar- becue Becky won’t stop their grilling show.
The festival was a unique protest to the still unnamed white woman who called police on a Black family using a char- coal grill at the park two weeks ago. The viral video of the inci- dent has now amassed over 2 million views and spawned even funnier memes.
Hundreds of grills were set up around the northeastern
shore of Lake Merritt. Oakland barbecue stalwart Everett & Jones was flipping yard-long racks of ribs to give away.
BBQ’n While Black was on and smoking.
Three Sundays before, Ken- zie Smith and Onsayo Abram had fired up their grill on the same strip of lawn, when a white woman ap- proached the two African American men to complain that they were using a charcoal grill in a non-charcoal-grilling area.
Then she called the police and stood there for two hours,
face stern, cell phone glued to her ear. About 90 minutes into the one-woman standoff, Michelle Snider, Smith’s wife, took out her own phone and filmed herself attempting to talk to the woman. She was still filming when a police offi- cer arrived and the white woman broke down sobbing, telling the officer that she was being harassed.
After Snider posted the video to YouTube, it racked up hundreds of thousands of views. The face of “BBQ Becky” — became a meme on social media.
