Governor Names Appointees To Various Boards
Last week, Governor Rick Scott made appoint- ments to several boards. Some of those that pertain to the Tampa Bay Area are as follows:
Bennett Barrow was ap- pointed to serve on the Tampa- Hillsborough County Expressway Authority.
Barrow, 36, of Tampa, is the vice president of Barrow Asset Management. He re- ceived his bachelor’s degree from Sewanee: The University of the South and is appointed to fill a vacant seat for a term
beginning on October 19, 2016 and ending on July 1, 2019.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
Ms. Roaya Tyson was chosen to serve on the Statewide Drug Policy Advisory Council.
Ms. Tyson, 53, of Tampa, is the Chief Operating Officer of Gracepoint Mental Health Center. She fills a vacant seat and is appointed for a term be- ginning October 19, 2016, and ending September 6, 2019.
University Area CDC Holds Free Tampa Bay Lightning Street Hockey Clinic
Children ages eight to 12 will get the chance to play street hockey with Tampa Bay Lightning hockey players at the University Area Commu- nity Development Corporation (University Area CDC)’s free Tampa Bay Lightning Street Hockey Clinic on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 4 to 6 p. m.
Children will participate in street hockey drills, and play a 30 minute game, guided by current and retired Tampa Bay Lightning players. Each child will leave with a street hockey stick and a ticket voucher to a Tampa Bay Lightning home game.
This street hockey clinic will take place at the Univer- sity Area CDC Community Center, 14013 North 22nd Street, Tampa, 33613. Regis-
tration is on a first come/first served basis and is required by calling Ronnie Oliver at 813.558.5212. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The clinic will take place for children ages eight to 10,
from4to5p.m.,andforchil- dren ages 11 and 12, from 5 to 6p.m.

Open House Meeting For Land Acquisition Planned
Hillsborough County will host a public information meeting on Thursday, Oct. 27, to gather input into the pur- chase of an office building in the Brandon area for use by the Hillsborough County Sher- iff’s Office.
The open-house format meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Utilities Brandon Support Operations Complex, 332 N. Falkenburg Road.
The 40,476-square-foot building is located at 1220- 1238 Tech Blvd. in the Pine- brooke Business Park. The Sheriff’s Office currently leases space in the building. The pur-
chase will support operational efficiencies and future growth of the agency’s facilities along Falkenburg Road.
The purchase price is $3.85 million, and is being funded by monies in the approved Capi- tal Improvement Program budget.

Fundraiser By New Tampa
Players’ Into The Woods
Proceeds from the New Tampa Players’ performance of Into the Woods on Thursday, Nov. 10 will benefit the community, via the non-profit University Area Community Development Corporation (University Area CDC).
Tickets will be sold on a “pay what you can” basis at the door to the November 10, 7:30 p. m. per- formance, held at the University Area Community Center at 14013 N. 22nd St., Tampa, 33613.
This popular tale incorporating many beloved and well-known characters into one musical will be directed by G. Frank Meekins. Choreography will be by Jarrett W. Koski. Book is by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
“Into the Woods is such a family friendly show, and the fact that people can pay as little or as much as they choose makes this show accessible for families. It also provides a simple way for people to support their community in a way that fits their budget,” said Wendy Leigh, UACDC chief de- velopment and marketing officer.
