FAMU Mourns The Loss Of Student Who Was Victim Of Off- Campus Shooting
QUINTON LANGFORD
... killed after someone shot into a crowd
TALLAHASSEE —Two Florida A & M University (FAMU) stu- dents were shot during an off- campus incident early Saturday morning. The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) reports Quin- ton Langford, 20, of Plant City, received medical treatment at the scene, but succumbed to injuries. Twenty-year-old Landsay Elis- son, 19, was transported to Talla- hassee Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Tallahassee police responded to reports of gunfire at approxi- mately 1:15 a.m., in the area of Gamble and Perry Streets. Ac- cording to authorities, it appears that a large party was ending when someone fired shots into the crowd, injuring the students.
FAMU’s Interim President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., said, “Quinton was a strong student leader. We extend condolences and prayers to his family, and will keep Landsay and his family in our prayers.”
Langford was in his third year at FAMU as a Construction Engi- neering Technology major and President of the FAMU Student Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. He was also taught by Associate Dean and Director of Engineering Technol- ogy Yves Anglade, Ph.D.
In response to Langford’s passing, Anglade said, “I was devastated when I heard it. He got along with everybody. He was very friendly.”
The TPD investigator in charge of the case is asking anyone who was at the scene, but did not speak with police officers to call 850- 891-4200.
Investigators say they hope a witness will come forward with in- formation that may lead to the ar- rest of the person or persons responsible for the shooting. Any- one who would prefer to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
Another Shooting
The day before Langford was fatally wounded two other stu- dents were injured by gunfire in an overnight shooting just off Florida A&M University’s cam-
pus.
Tallahassee Police were called
to a home on the corner of Bar- bourville Drive and South Adams Street around 3:30 a.m. after mul- tiple reports of gunfire in the area. Barbourville Drive runs just east of the main road through campus.
Officers found two people with non-life threatening gunshot wounds who were then trans- ported to the hospital, said TPD spokesman Officer David Northway. They are expected to make a full recovery.
