Jameis Winston Attends Florida State Game
Jameis Winston is back in Tallahassee this weekend.
Cam Heyward Could Face Second Fine For Eye Black
CAM HEYWARD
PITTSBURGH -- Steelers de- fensive end Cam Heyward wore eye black to honor his late father, Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, for the second straight game, despite receiving a $5,787 fine last week for vio- lating the NFL's uniform policy. The eye black says "Iron" under one eye and "Head" under the other.
He faces an $11,576 fine for a second violation of the rules regarding the display of per- sonal messages.
Craig Heyward, a former NFL fullback, battled cancer before his death in 2006.
Cam Heyward told ESPN that he was not given permis- sion from the NFL to wear the eye black, but the league will hear his appeal of the original fine Tuesday. He is not sure whether he will get fined again. Will he keep wearing it?
"That's the goal," Heyward said after the Steelers' 25-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals. "There have been others, and I'm not going to name any names, that have worn it to support cancer. I don't want to get involved in it, but it's bigger than me. I'm not going to shy away from the fight against cancer, and I'm going to sup- port them in any way possible."
Game Winner Has To Have Hip Surgery
Jameis Winston is cur- rently in his first season in the NFL, but with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on their bye week, the former Heisman winner has the weekend off.
And what better way for
Winston to spend that week- end off than by watching his former team?
Winston visited Doak Campbell Stadium on Satur- day to watch the Seminoles take on Louisville.
Michigan State defensive back Jalen Watts-Jackson has had hip surgery a day after scoring the winning touchdown on the final play against Michi- gan.
The surgery at the Univer- sity of Michigan hospital Sun- day lasted more than three hours.
Watts-Jackson was in the right place to catch a floating football that Wolverines punter Blake O'Neill fumbled Satur- day. He returned it 38 yards to lift the Spartans to a startling 27-23 victory.
He didn't have much chance to celebrate. The redshirt fresh- man appeared to land hard on his left hip after he was tackled into the end zone by Michigan tight end Jake Butt.
Michigan State DB Jalen Watts-Jackson ran game win- ning TD.
Joyous teammates jumped on Watts-Jackson as he lay on a maize ''M'' in the end zone. He was carted off the field and hospitalized.

NY Giants TE’s Foot After He
Contracted Staph Infection
Jameis Winston has won his second Rookie of the Week award for his performance against the Jacksonville
Jaguars. He completed 13 of 19 passes for 209 yards, one touchdown, two sacks and no turnovers.
New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells is in a battle to save his foot and possibly his life, with NFL.com reporting that Fells has had five surger- ies to stop a serious staph in- fection that was reportedly contracted from a cortisone in- jection he received after a toe and ankle injury.
The website reports that Fells is battling a methicillin-resis- tant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, infection that has kept the 32-year-old hospitalized for over a week. As of Friday, sev- eral news sites noted that Fells' condition looked to be improving, since he had been moved from the intensive care unit to a private room.
Earlier this past week, news came that the New York Giants had scrubbed their facilities be- cause the staph infection that is also contagious.
Initially, the news was that Fells was expected to be OK, but on Sunday morning, NFL Network reported that Fells' situation is quite serious.
Cam Newton Is A Legitimate MVP Candidate
Daniel Fells was taken to the hospital on October 2nd.
After a week of pain, Fells' wife took him to the emergency room on Oct. 2 with a fever; his temperature was 104 degrees.
Giants spokesman Pat Han- lon said, "this is a serious situ- ation that has been taken seriously from the beginning. We're all fighting for Daniel." General manager Jerry Reese and coach Tom Coughlin are among those who have visited Fells at the hospital.
If you ask a knowledgeable NFL fan who has the worst set of receivers in the NFL, it won't take long for them to list the Carolina Panthers. Many might list the Panthers first.
The Panthers' offensive line wasn't considered before the season to be anywhere in the top half of the league, though it has played pretty well. Running back Jonathan Stewart has been below 4 yards per carry this season and hasn't scored a touchdown.
So at some point, when all these deficiencies are added up, doesn't it make sense that Cam Newton is on a very short list of legitimate MVP candidates right now?
Nobody has done more with less, at least. The other quar- terbacks in the discussion — Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and yes, Andy Dalton — have more help. But here the Panthers are, at 5-0 after doing what so few teams have done in the Russell Wilson era, and that's win at the Seattle Sea- hawks.
Newton led an eight-play, 80-yard drive in the final three minutes to beat the Seahawks 27-23. In the final minute New-

ton hit tight end Greg Olsen for a 26-yard touchdown pass when there was a miscommu- nication between safety Earl Thomas and cornerback Richard Sherman, who ges- tured to each other in frustra- tion after Olsen scored. Newton completed all six of his passes that drive with the game on the line (let's not count an incompletion on a spike to stop the clock). On the possession before that, New- ton took the Panthers 80 yards for a score and went 5-of-6 on the drive. That's how the Pan- thers turned a 23-14 fourth- quarter deficit into a win.
