   Switching Lanes On The NFL
   don't know about any- one else but, right now, I'm feeling conflicted. As a fan of football I typically look forward to this time of the year when the NFL season officially kicks off. The thing is, ever since Colin Kaeper- nick was banished from the league, my enthusiasm for the sport has diminished
considerably.
As much as I enjoy
watching the games, it's be- coming harder and harder for me to separate the sport that I love from the individu- als who profit behind the scenes who've shown, through their public state- ments, newly implemented rules and policies, that they could care less about people who fit my ethnic persua- sion. And, even though there are times when I try to ignore the fact that this dynamic ex- ists, it's impossible to un-see what's been revealed so clearly.
To make myself not feel
bad about rooting for my fa- vorite team (The Tampa Bay Buccaneers), I tried to trick myself into believing that the owners of the franchise weren't like the others across the league.
But, after discovering that they're strong support- ers of Donald Trump, the same man who once called NFL players "sons of bitches" who should be fired if they didn't stop practicing their right to free speech, it dawned on me that they may have just as much of a plan- tation mentality as their close-minded colleagues.
This, of course, is my struggle. I know that the gatekeepers of the NFL have a serious problem with Black men who don't recognize the boxes designated for them. Yet, I'm so hooked on the product they've produced that, walking away in protest is proving to be as difficult for me as, I imagine, it is for a heroin addict to beat an
opioid addiction. Unfortunately, though,
through their own stubborn- ness, NFL owners have left me no choice but to look in a different direction for my en- tertainment. Since they've found it necessary to sup- press their employees' desire to shine a light on the injus- tices that occur inside of Black communities, I think it's only right that individuals like myself, who share the same concerns as the play- ers, show our displeasure with the NFL's response by taking a symbolic knee and not tuning in to their pro- gramming.
At some point I believe NFL executives will eventu- ally come to the realization that there truly are some things bigger than football. But, until that happens, I think we would all be better off finding something else to do with our time on Sunday afternoons.
I know it won't be easy. But, like Kaepernick says in his new NIKE ad cam- paign, you have to "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything."

     Andrew Gillum Defies History!
 ot since Reconstruction when a defeated Con-
federacy was forced to consider redevelopment at the hands of Black legislative and gubernatorial leadership, has the State of Florida approached the possibility that it might welcome its first commander- in-chief. Now, in steps Democratic gubernatorial can- didate Andrew Gillum.
Fresh from a resounding Democratic Primary win at the Florida polls, tried-but unsinged by the fire of political intrigue, and having been the successful mayor of Florida’s capital city (Tallahassee), Gillum decided not to be satisfied by his current accomplish- ments.
Instead, following in the footsteps of a former first Black governor of the State of Virginia and the former first Black president of the United States of America, Gillum boldly threw his hat into the ring of competi- tion.
And for his trouble, he was promptly beset by his Republican opponent who, in a bully-like manner, warned voters not to “monkey-up” their possibilities by casting a vote for Gillum. We and Gillum are still scratching our heads at what might have been meant by the Republican candidate’s curious comment, and in the course of history may consider it as a footnote to Gillum’s victory.
Nevertheless, if such was intended as a racial slur, we suggest a very sweet revenge: Go to the polls on Election Day. Vote for Andrew Gillum. Then laugh all the way to the Governor’s Mansion.

Preparing the perfect pitch requires prior proper planning. Here are a few simple tips to prepare the perfect pitch for your one shot to win:
Plan on introducing your- self by stating the answer to their problem. (ex. I make
success simple... We make learning fun... Our company saves you money...)
Do it with a K.I.S.S. by keeping it short and simple. 60 seconds or less. Your pitch should pique their in- terest and imagination so they want to hear more.
Explain your expertise concisely and with confi- dence letting your listener know why others have paid you for your service and why you are the one that can get the job done for them. Share a brief story of how you re- cently benefitted a client, be sure to include the positive outcome your client re- ceived.
Preparation and practice makes perfect. Prepare more than one pitch for various situations. Modify your story to match the product or serv- ice that’s appropriate for the reason why your client hired
you.
Create a call to action and
ask for what you want or tell the listener what you want them to do now and how you want them to do it.
When you only have one shot you better see yourself as Michael J in the fourth quarter of ’92 and make that last one shot to win.
