The Black women worked for NASA and were instrumental in helping launch John Glenn into orbit.
They showed a country anyone can dream—and dream big. Students in American History and African-American Studies classes walked to the AMC West Shore 14 theaters to sit together,
watch and learn.
Protesters In Ybor City
BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
State Representative Sean Shaw (Attorney) said Monday he often wondered what would have been his reaction had he grown up during the Civil Rights era. Sunday afternoon, he had an opportunity to see just what would happen.
After President Donald Trump signed the executive order on Friday banning those from predominantly Muslim countries (namely, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Libya, Somalia, and Sudan) from entering the country, Rep. Shaw (District 59) said he was compelled to join “those who were standing up for what is right. We cannot let racism take over our coun- try.”
Rep. Shaw said he saw the facebook posting of the protest planned for Ybor City’s Centen- nial Park and decided he wanted to join them. He was among the first public officials to speak to what he described as “a huge crowd.” He joined

the large crowd that repre- sented several nationalities.
Rep. Shaw said “we’re going to have to be active, loud and be seen. We have to fight with every inch in our bodies so this President will know that we do not approve of what he’s doing.
“He has shown to us in his first 9 days in office that he is not deserving of this office. He’s against everything Amer- ica stands for,” he said.
