Candidates Qualify For Primary Election

Last Friday at noon was the deadline for all candi- dates to qualify to seek elected offices on a state and local level. Some state races have several candidates for which voters can decide on.
On the State level some races have multiple candi- dates. Additionally, some of those offices do not have in- cumbents seeking re-elec- tion.
The office of State Sena- tor, District 19, is currently occupied by Senator Arthenia Joyner, who is vacating as a result of term limits.
Five candidates have qualified to serve in this ca- pacity. The five candidates are: John Houman (Rep), Ed Narain (Dem), Betty Reed (Dem), Augie Riberio (Dem), and Dar- ryl Rouson (Dem).
Three candidates have qualified to compete for the office of State Representa- tive. Those individuals are Dianne Hart, Sean Shaw, and Walter Smith, II.

Ms. Carol Kurdell, an- other longtime Hillsborough
County School Board mem- ber has decided not to seek re-election as well. She rep- resents District 7.
Eight candidates have thrown their hats into the ring to become the next Dis- trict 7 representative. They are: Joseph P. Caetano, Alan Clendenin, Norene Copeland, Carlos Fron- tela, Lynn Gray, Stanley G. Gray, Catherine James, and Randy Toler.
Important Dates
The last day to register in order to participate in the upcoming Primary Election is August 1st. This is also the deadline to change their po- litical party, address, or name.
Early Voting for the Pri- mary Election begins on Au- gust 15th and ends on August 28th. The Primary Election will take place on Tuesday, August 30th.

Free Community Kappa Boot Kamp
Need some motivation to wipe off those holiday pounds? Do you want to fit in that gown or suit for that late summer ex- travaganza? Well, here’s a fun event that is sure to get your cardio pumping. The best part? It’s free.
The entire community is invited to Al Barnes Park, 2902 N. 32nd St., Tampa, on Saturday, July 9 to participate in the first Kappa Boot Kamp, put on by the Tampa Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
The action is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a. m. and is open to people of all ages and athleticism. Professional trainer Chris Bonner, Jr. will be leading this fun com- munity-wide adventure and a D. J. will be there spinning tunes to keep everyone moti- vated for the hour-long event. The only thing needed is a workout mat or towel and you. Come out early to get a prime workout spot.
The Kappa Boot Kamp is part of the Tampa Alumni Chapter’s and Kappa’s Healthy Community Initiative devel- oped to educate the commu- nity on personal health.
