Rev. Willie Thomas Car- penter was born January 19, 1930 to the parentage of McKensey and Mary Carpen- ter in Aliceville, Alabama, and also attended school there.
He was called to preach the gospel on July 27, 1969 and was ordained at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John Willis. He was called to pastor Pilgrim Rest Mission- ary Baptist Church in Carver City; and served as pastor for less than a year when God spoke to him saying, “Go or- ganize and build me a church, and many will be born. As I led Noah to build an ark, many laughed at him and so will you be scorned.”
On August 3, 1971, Rev. W. T. Carpenter, along with seven others organized The True Love Missionary Baptist Church from his and Sis. Emma Lee Carpenter’s home.
He was preceded in death by both parents, both broth- ers, one sister, his wife, Sis. Emma Lee Carpenter and two step daughters, Evelyn and Ruby.
Prior to marriage, Rev. Carpenter fathered three children: Willie Carpenter, Gloria Carpenter and Willie T. Carpenter, Jr. Born to his union with Emma Lee Car- penter were three children: Min. Gail (James) Cason, Timoth (Trend) Carpenter and Vickie Duncan. He also raised seven step-children: Mary Lee Owens, David Owens, Albert Lee Owens, Evelyn and Ruby Calhoun.
Born to his second mar- riage to Sis. Lillie B. Travis- Carpenter, was one son, Joshua Carpenter.
In addition to leaving fond memories to his children and step-children are his grand- children, nephews, nieces, cousins, goddaughter, Casan- dra Murphy; best friend, Rev. Eddie Nails; his sons in the ministry and a host of other loving and caring friends.
After obeying God’s voice, Rev. Carpenter has pastored The True Love Missionary Baptist Church for 47 years and leaves a legacy where he is loved as pastor, father and grandfather to the flock he has shepherded.
A DAUGHTER’S BIRTHDAY MEMORIAL POEM
DAUGHTER: XAVIA D. I. ‘PEEBLES’ WILLIAMS D. O. B: January 12, 1983
It’s your birthday up in heaven, and I’m wondering what you’ll do. Will there be a celebration and a cake to honor you? Are the kitchen angels busy breaking eggs and sifting flour? Is the angel choir practicing as it gets close to the hour?
Is there ice cream made from the snowflakes and some candy made from clouds? Will it just be you and Jesus, or all the happy crowds?
I won’t be there to hug you, to count and pull your ears, and I’m sure I’ll feel lonely as I shed some birth- day tears. But I know your heavenly birthday will be the best one ever! Just remem- ber, I still love you – on your birthday and forever.

BIRTHDAY IN HEAVEN
FATHER: MR. ELBERT TAYLOR, JR. D. O. B.: January 14, 1918
I see the tears you are crying, and the pain that’s in your eyes. But please don’t be sad, because love never dies.
And though you cannot feel me hold you or give you a quick little kids, the sound of my voice and the touch of my hand are the simple things you miss.
So please celebrate my birthday, filled with memories and love; just close you eyes and realize I am celebrating in Heaven above.
And when the sorrow overwhelms you, just pray and He will help you be strong, and you will find the peace He alone can give, knowing I am in Heaven where I belong.
