Lawsuit Filed Over District 5 School Board Seat
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
One of the positions on the 2020 General Election ballot was the runoff elec- tion for the Hillsborough County School Board Dis- trict 5 seat. During the runoff election, voters chose Henry Washing- ton over incumbent Tamara Shamburger.
Last month, Ms.
Shamburger filed a law- suit asking that the vote be overturned. Her basis for the lawsuit is election law requires that the candidate live within the district he or she seeks to represent. She contends that he does not actually reside in the home.
Ms. Shamburger is being represented by At- torney Christian Waugh.
HENRY ‘SHAKE’ WASHINGTON ... Declared winner
of District 5
TAMARA SHAMBURGER ... Former incumbent of the District 5 Seat
Washington, who is represented by Attorney Cheryl Forchilli, report- edly stated that he moved from his Seffner home to the home of his mother-in- law in West Tampa.
Ms. Shamburger and Washington both re- ferred questions about the lawsuit to their respective attorneys.
Neither attorney had re- turned calls at press time.
