Lee Roy Selmon Statue Unveiled In Tampa
Bruce Arians Hopes
  Jameis Winston Has
'Gotten Into The
Virtual Reality'
Tampa Bay Buccaneers great Lee Roy Selmon has a statue in Tampa. It’s not lo- cated at the stadium where the team plays but in down- town Tampa.
Selmon, a Hall of Famer who arrived from his native Oklahoma as the first round of the 1976 draft, has been immortalized in bronze for his contributions to the city, contributions that extend be- yond his efforts on the foot- ball field.
Selmon, who as the USF athletic director helped build a solid football program, be- came a cornerstone of his adopted hometown. He’s de- picted not in a football uni- form, but the statue has Selmons wearing his retired
Patrick Mahomes’ No-look Pass Included In ‘Madden 20’
PATRICK MAHOMES
Patrick Mahomes was an easy choice for the cover of the latest installment of the Madden video game series, and the creators have incor- porated one of the reigning MVP’s signature moves.
Madden 20 is set to be re- leased next month, and a snippet from the game that was released shows Ma- homes pulling off a no-look pass.
Mahomes, of course, somehow completed a no- look pass during a game late last season. The play looked like it came out of a video game, so it’s appropriate that it has made its way into Mad- den.
The Buccaneers are done with on-field work until training camp, but head coach Bruce Arians hopes that quarterback Jameis Winston will be staying busy with football work off the field in the coming weeks.
Arians stated that he likes where Winston is after their first offseason together and that he’s shown the abil- ity to handle “really difficult situations” that the team has put in front of him. He also said that he’d like to see Win- ston use the digital realm in order to make even more progress heading into the season.
“I think one of the things hopefully, he’s gotten into the virtual reality,” Arians said. “Because we’ve got STRIVR now. And it’s amazing. You should probably get an exam- ple of it. But you put the gog- gles on and you can watch our practice. You turn around and see the coaches behind you. It’s the entire blitz drill. So you can sit in your living room and practice all day

without sweating and it’s us practicing. It’s not a video game. It’s from our actual practice. Carson Palmer had it in his house and that was Thursday night for him. All the blitz pickups. You can see both wide receivers. You can see everything.”
The 2019 season is going to be a big one for Winston as he tries to earn another con- tract from the Buccaneers after four seasons that haven’t made his future in Tampa a sure thing. Those decisions will be made in the real world, but could be made easier if Winston improves after spending time in the vir- tual realm.
Lee Roy Selmon's widow, Claybra Selmon, right, looks on as a statue of Selmon is unveiled in downtown Tampa last Fri- day morning.
No. 63 over a collared shirt. Selmon died in 2011 at the age of 56 after suffering a stroke. He spent his entire playing career with the Buc-
caneers, and he entered the Hall of Fame in 1995. The Buccaneers added him to the franchise’s Ring of Honor in 2009.
 AJ Green Says He Does
 Not Want To Play For
Anyone Besides Bengals
   Former Florida
AJ Green’s best chance of winning a Super Bowl would probably be to leave the Cincinnati Bengals as a free agent following the 2019 season, but the star wide re- ceiver says he has no interest in doing that.
At his football camp this week, Green told WXIX-TV that he wants to remain with the Bengals beyond 2019. He said Cincinnati is “home for me” and all he knows.
“I can’t see myself playing

anywhere else or playing in a different city,” Green said. “Hopefully I can be here for a couple more years. We’ll see on that part.”
Gator Tony Joiner
Charged With
Murdering His Wife
Cam Newton Will Throw
Tony Joiner, former standout football player at the University of Florida, has been arrested and charged with murdering his wife.
Joiner’s wife, Heyzel Obando, was found dead in her home in February 2016. It wasn’t until two months after her body was discov- ered that police ruled her death a homicide, and it was- n’t until yesterday that an ar- rest was made in the case. Joiner has been charged with second-degree murder.
Joiner had previously been arrested twice on do- mestic violence charges.
Joiner played for the Gators from 2004-2007, during Urban Meyer’s

tenure as head coach. He played in 47 games as a de- fensive back, including the 2006 national championship against Ohio State. He was the captain of the 2007 team, which also featured Aaron Hernandez.
Cam Newton continues to ease himself back into ac- tion ahead of the 2019 season.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback is set to throw during all drills starting Tues- day during the team’s mini- camp.
This will be the first time he has done so since undergo- ing arthroscopic surgery on his throwing shoulder after the 2018 season.
Though Newton has yet to participate in team drills, Panthers head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion
CAM NEWTON
described the quarterback as “pain-free” and having achieved “every milestone” set for him in his recovery process.
