Spike Lee Calls For Hollywood To 'Shut It Down' In Georgia
John Singleton’s Mom Reportedly Claims Personal Items Were Taken From His Home
John Singleton’s mother is reportedly seeking legal au- thority to “restore order” and make decisions regarding her son’s estate and personal property after some of his be- longings were allegedly taken from his home.
According to multiple re- ports, Sheila Ward filed an emergency petition to gain control of Singleton’s estate until everything can get sorted out. Ward first at- tempted to become executor in April, days after the late di- rector suffered a stroke and was subsequently hospital- ized before being taken off of life support.
Ward purportedly con- tends that Singleton’s prop- erty was locked in his home office and that the “third

party” who took the items had a key to his home, TMZ re- ports. Ward believes that Singleton’s valuables are at risk, and wants to be named a special administrator of the estate until the courts make a final decision over who should be in control. She claims that his belongings were “distributed without au- thorization,” per The Blast.
Director Spike Lee is call- ing for Hollywood production companies to leave Georgia over a law that would ban abortions as early as six weeks, upon detection of a fetal heart- beat.
Most studios that have com- mented have said they're wait- ing to see if the so-called "heartbeat" law actually takes effect next year, or if the courts will block it. But at the arrivals line for Denzel Washing- ton's American Film Institute lifetime achievement tribute Thursday, Lee said now is the

time for Georgia-based pro- ductions to "shut it down" and boycott the state's booming film industry to drive change.
Lee acknowledged that a mass exodus could dent livelihoods, but cited black bus drivers af- fected by the Civil Rights Movement-era boycott in Montgomery.
"I know it's going to affect people's livelihood. But that's how things change," Lee said.
"You've got to be on the right side of history, and the state of Georgia and those other states, they're wrong," he added.
