Man Faces Murder Charge In Shooting
First Arrest Made In New Gun Bounty Program
On February 9th, law en- forcement officials announced a new gun bounty program aimed at getting illegal guns off the streets.
Less than 24 hours later, Crime Stoppers received an anonymous tip that led to the arrest of a man charged with armed robbery.
Last week, 18-year-old Shakorreon Elijah Hall was arrested and charged under the new program.
According to reports, on February 4th, Hall got onto a HARTline bus and sat behind a passenger who was sleeping next to his backpack. Later, po- lice said Hall snatched the backpack and got off the bus.
The bus passenger report- edly chased Hall off the bus and into an alleyway. Hall then allegedly pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet.
On February 10th at 9:40 p. m., Crime Stoppers received the tip about Halls’ location.
Detectives started working on the case the next day, and by the end of the day, Hall was found inside a hotel room and arrested.
SHAKORREON HALL
Because armed robbery is a second-degree felony, it is un- likely Hall would eligible for pretrial intervention, according to Lisa Haber of Crime Stop- pers. However, if Hall is con- victed, he will have to pay a mandatory $20 court fee that goes to Crime Stoppers.
Anyone who wants to offer an anonymous tip about an il- legal firearm and become eligi- ble for a cash reward is asked to call 1-800-873-8477.
Hall is in jail on $50,500 bond on charges of felony petit theft and robbery with a firearm.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announces that an arrest has been made in a February 14th shooting that left one man dead and another wounded.
Ismael Ortiz, 28, is facing charges of second-degree mur- der with a firearm discharge causing death and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon great bodily harm. He is being held without bail.
According to deputies Rafael Salvi, 25, Leonard Denis, 26, and two friends drove to meet a man in the parking lot of Suburban Lodge, 6902 West Hillsborough Av- enue, to allegedly buy mari- juana and Xanax. The transaction was reportedly arranged by one of Salvi’s friends who had purchased marijuana from the unknown man in the past.
Salvi, Denis and others re- portedly parked and waited for the seller. The seller arrived and parked. Denis got out of his ve- hicle and walked up the seller’s SUV and allegedly handed him money in exchange for mari- juana and Xanax, deputies said.
Denis then returned to his vehicle and the SUV pulled out of the parking lot. The SUV re- turned later and tried to block the vehicle Denis and the oth- ers were in. A witness said the driver’s side window opened and someone fired into the ve- hicle with Denis and the others, then drove away.
Salvi and Denis were each hit with a bullet. Salvi, who was shot in the back, died and Denis survived, deputies said. A witness identified the gun- man as the seller and as the same man he had purchased marijuana from in the past.
The witness gave deputies the phone number of the seller and text messages that showed the arranging of the drug transac- tion according to the Sheriff’s Office. The witness told deputies he didn’t know the gunman’s name, but that his nickname was Twink.
Investigators were able to de- termine the phone number was associated with Ortiz.
On Wednesday, a witness positively identified Ortiz from a lineup. Detectives located Ortiz at his home and he was brought in for questioning. After being read his rights, Ortiz was charged with the shooting.

Ex-Tampa Police Employee To Plead In Tax Fraud Case
A former Tampa Police De- partment employee has ac- cepted a plea agreement in a income tax refund fraud case. She is facing up to 10 years in prison.
According to court docu- mentation, Ms. Tonia Bright has agreed to plead guilty to two counts of obtain- ing information from a pro- tected computer. Ms. Bright was a 33-year veteran civilian of the Tampa Police Depart- ment.
As part of her authorized duties, she took reports from citizens in person and by tele- phone that did not require the response of a sworn police of- ficer. As a result of her respon- sibilities, Ms. Bright had access to local, state, and fed- eral law enforcement data- bases, including the National Crime Information Center computerized index. But, her authorized use was restricted to the performance of her du- ties.
Officials said Ms. Bright began providing her friend, Ms. Rita Monique Girven with information for the pur-
pose of filing false federal in- come tax returns, beginning in 2009 through 2014. Ms. Bright reportedly gave Ms. Girven protected information on at least 10 occasions. When Ms. Girven received the in- come tax refunds, she shared some of the money with Ms. Bright.
Ms. Bright accessed the information of a tax fraud vic- tim on March 13, 2013. Police said the victim had not had any contact with the depart- ment since July 2012 and there was no legitimate reason for Ms. Bright to access his information.
She is said to have given the information to Ms. Girven filed 15 tax refunds generated from home address and loaded on to a debit card.
Officials said Ms. Girven attempted to obtain $757,936 in fraudulent income tax re- funds. She successfully re- ceived $432,157.
Ms. Girven is currently serving a 10-year sentence in federal prison. No court date has been set for Ms. Bright.
