Accountant Ends 40-Year Career With Retirement
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Dr. George Foxx began his life in Ft. Pierce. The family moved to Miami and he graduated from high school in that city.
Since that time, he has ac- complished many mile- stones. And, after 40 years of providing service to oth- ers as “The Tax Doctor,” Dr. Foxx has decided to re- tire.
Dr. Foxx never planned to spend 40 years of his life in tax preparation services, mortgage brokerage, and general administrative serv- ices. Nor, did he ever plan on calling Tampa home.
But both things took place and he is not disappointed by either.
After an 18-1/2 year ca- reer in the U. S. Navy, Dr. Foxx decided to enroll in college. His first stop was Laney College, in Oakland, CA, where he earned his B. A. Degree in Business Ad- ministration in 1977. He then began taking business courses at College in Colum- bia (St. Louis) Missouri.
It was during this time that he enrolled in business classes and became an ac- countant. He also launched the career that would span 40 years in March, 1977.
He transferred to San Francisco State University and graduated with a B. S. Degree in Social Sciences. He had planned to continue his education, but was de- railed.
Dr. Foxx came to Tampa on vacation 27 years ago and said he is grounded because of the properties and busi- nesses he owns.
After arriving in Tampa, he began substitute teaching and then was hired by the

Hillsborough County School District and assigned to Blake High School. While there, he became the first Black swimming coach in Hillsborough County. He also coached wrestling.
And, during the summers, the income from his tax service bridged the income gap. He also decided to pur- sue graduate school. He earned his Master’s in Edu- cational Leadership from
Nova University. And, in March 2002, Dr. Foxx earned his ED.D Degree in Educational Leadership, graduating first in his class.
After enrolling in courses to train as a principal, he stepped into the leadership role at Mt. Pleasant Charter Middle School. However, he was always ready for “tax season.”
“I helped people who were having problems with the IRS. People think April 15th, is the deadline for fil- ing taxes. But, August 15th is the deadline for those working out of the United States and October 15th is the final deadline. I have helped more than 11,000 people with their taxes dur- ing my career.”
The father of two, Dr. Foxx is a member of the Chapel of Faith, and a mem- ber of the National Society of Accountants.
Now, at the age of 64, Dr. Foxx plans to just relax, travel, and take life as it comes. And, he plans to con- tinue helping people in some form or fashion.
