Mike Tomlin Accuses Referees Of Using Video Board To Call Penalty On Steelers
MIKE TOMLIN
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is not happy that, in his mind, Sunday’s re- ferees used the video board to throw a flag on his team.
On Wednesday, Tomlin ac- cused the referees of flagging cornerback William Gay for unnecessary roughness only after seeing a replay of the ques- tionable hit on the video board after not taking any action upon seeing it live.
Tomlin made clear that he had no problem with the play being flagged, but that the process behind the penalty set a very troubling precedent.
“I’m a big player safety guy. I’m on the competition commit- tee,” Tomlin said. “Very rarely are you going to hear argu- ments from me regarding calls relative to that, provided they are done in real time. I thought they called it off the Jum- boTron, and I won’t accept that.”
Lakers To Retire Kobe’s Jerseys
Will Be Played At
Raymond James Stadium
Kobe Bryant’s storied career will forever be im- mortalized at the Staples Center this Christmas.
According to reports, the retired Los Angeles Laker’s jerseys will hang from the rafters ahead of the team’s Dec. 18 game against the Golden State Warriors.
After spending 20 years rocking the purple and gold, Bryant announced his re- tirement from the league in 2015, solidifying a one-of-a- kind run within the NBA.
The Tampa Bay Bucca- neers announced Tuesday morning their Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears will be played at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday as origi- nally scheduled.
Brian Ford, the Bucs' chief operating officer, con- firmed the team worked with the NFL to assess the impact of Hurricane Irma before making the decision.
"We have been working tirelessly with the Tampa Sports Authority, as well as the NFL league office, to en- sure that Raymond James Stadium would be available to host our season opener
Deshaun Watson Starter For Week 2
The writing was on the wall when Tom Savage was benched for Deshaun Wat- son midway through the Jaguars’ absolute rout of the Texans in Week 1. Now it’s of- ficial: Watson will be the Tex- ans’ starter in Week 2 against the Bengals.
Savage was named the starter heading into the sea- son, but things changed when the Jaguars were able to sack him six times in the first half on Sunday. Savage com- pleted 7 of 13 passes for 62 yards and fumbled twice. O’Brien pulled him and let Watson get his first NFL ac-
against the Chicago Bears this Sunday," Ford said. "Host- ing the game is important to us, as Tampa Bay has been through a lot over the past few days. We look forward to providing our fans and the entire region an opportunity to come together this Sunday to kick off our 2017 season."

Against that relentless
Jacksonville pass rush, Wat- son fared only slightly better. Watson is more mobile than Savage, and at least he was able to get the team into the end zone against Jacksonville.

Even After The Storm:
Charles Oakley
After taking heat for a dis- astrous loss to UCLA, Texas A&M football coach Kevin Sumlin expected slander. What came instead was a racist letter sent to his home.
Shared on Twitter Thurs- day (Sept. 7) by the coach’s wife Charlene Sumlin, the note calls for his firing while calling him the n-word. “You suck as a coach! You’re a ni**a and can’t win! Please get lost! Or else.”
Sumlin questioned why would send the threatening letter to her home.

For Pro Football Hall Of Fame
Former NFL running back LenDale White estimates he suffered 20-30 concus- sions during his playing ca- reer.
White was a star at USC, forming a successful duo with Reggie Bush on the Trojans. He then became a 1,00-yard rusher with the Titans in the NFL, teaming with Chris Johnson.
White was interviewed by the Los Angeles Times’ Zach Helfand recently as a pre- view to this weekend’s USC- Texas game, which has invited memories and references to the 2006 Rose Bowl featuring the two programs.
The former running back talked about what his life has been like in the years since his playing days ended.
There are 108 modern-era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2018, with names like Randy Moss, Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher up for the first time.
From this list, 25 will be named semifinalists in No- vember and will be cut down to 15 finalists that the com- mittee will vote on the Satur- day before the Super Bowl, which next year is Feb. 3 in Minneapolis.
Also on the list are final- ists from 2017 who didn't make it: Isaac Bruce, Ter- rell Owens, Tony Boselli, Alan Faneca, Joe Jacoby, Kevin Mawae, Brian Dawkins, Ty Law, John

Lynch and former coach Don Coryell.
Other prominent names on the list are Randall Cun- ningham, Steve McNair, Tiki Barber, Earnest Byner, Roger Craig, Her- schel Walker, Jeff Satur- day, Richard Seymour, Rhonde Barber and coaches Marty Schotten- heimer and Dick Vermeil.
Oakley, a beloved former New York Knicks player, at- tended a Knicks-Clippers game on Feb. 8 at MSG and ended up arrested. TV cameras showed him getting physical with secu- rity guards who physically re- moved him from his seat.
Oakley ended up charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault, one misdemeanor count of aggravated harass- ment and one misdemeanor count of trespassing in addition to two counts of harassment.
The 53-year-old agreed last month to a plea deal that gives him six months of probation and a one-year ban from MSG. His attorney hinted at the time that they would be filing a civil suit against James Dolan.
LENDALE WHITE White has gone through
some ups-and-downs in the past few years, and he now uses marijuana regularly to help deal with the pain and is- sues he endures daily as a re- sult of his football career.
He said in the interview that he thinks he suffered around 20-30 concussions during his playing career, even though only one was di- agnosed.
