Mayor Surprises Radiant Jewels At Van Buren For Their ‘Career Day’ Event
The Tampa Chapter of the Links, Inc. sponsored ‘Career Day’ for its teen group at Van Buren Middle School. The Radiant Jewels, who are mentored by the group monthly, were able to speak to 12 professionals about their future recently. Each 8th grader was able to spend 15 minutes with the professionals that included, nurses, paramedics and firefighters, engineers, a re- tail specialist, massage therapist, pharmacist, banker, a State Attorney, newspaper columnist, photographer, military recruiter and a police captain and community officer. The Jewels also spent time with Tampa mayor, Bob Buckhorn who came by for about 30 minutes to talk to the teens. The members of the Jewels are kneeling left to right: Ciarra Williams, Markesia Brown, Chanel Carr, Kiarra Torres, Akira Wingo, Gabriella Aftergood, Jaqweda Dillon, Susana Aquianos, Destiny Gilbert and Dynasty Thomas.
