Robeson High School. “To en- sure that more students have more access, I am excited to announce the creation of the New Chance Arts and Liter- acy Fund.
The fund will bring arts program and materials to schools that have experienced a decrease in five-year gradu- ation rates, experienced budget cuts and lack of text books, and are without music or arts programs.”

BET (Viacom) Fires Longtime Programming President Stephen Hill And VP Zola Mashariki Who Is Battling Cancer
Stephen Hill and Zola Mashariki have both been fired by Debra Lee, CEO of BET owned by Viacom.
The 69th Annual Parsons School of Design Benefit will honor superstar Rihanna (along with Eileen Fisher and Neiman Marcus) as a fashion trendsetter.
Rihanna has worn several pieces by some of the school’s grads (Matthew Adams Dolan and Melody Ya Jun Lin).
The school’s executive
dean, Joel Towers, said in a statement, “Parsons is proud to present Rihanna with this honor, as she has inspired millions through her power- ful music and distinct style. She has championed our re- cent alumni on a number of occasions by wearing their designs.
The benefit will take place on May 22 at Pier 60.
BET appears to be undergo- ing some damage control measures, this after CEO Debra Lee announced the stepping down of executives Stephen Hill and Zola Mashariki.
Hill is the wunderkind be- hind great BET staples such as 106 & Park, The New Edition Story, BET Hip Hop Awards' The Cyphers and Real Hus- bands of Hollywood.
However, Mashariki is said to still be under contract for the network and was shocked to learn she was part of the
moves made on the executive level.
Debra wanted it to be per- ceived that the transition was a part of Viacom’s restructure, so she included Mashariki in the exit story in an effort to protect Stephen, who was ousted. [Viacom] wanted him out,” a source said.
Hill, president of program- ming, was employed at BET for 18 years. Mashariki took medical leave earlier this year and was baffled to read she was stepping down from her role as EVP head of original programming.
